Hey North Central!

As many of you know, we as a church are currently in the middle of our Orange Bucket Sunday drive.  Due to COVID-19, it looks different than it ever has before, with donations being collected online versus physically dropping off buckets.  Though it is not taking place as it normally does, we still have an incredible opportunity to love our community well and serve them in difficult times.

In light of this, I am excited to tell you more about Food4Kids!  This organization exists to identify chronically hungry children in our community and provide them with food and vital resources on a regular basis. They do this by filling backpacks with nonperishable food before distributing them out to students in need.  The kids bring the backpacks home for the weekend, then bring them back to school to be filled again each week, with larger boxes being sent home for holidays.  Food4Kids is 100% volunteer run and works in partnership with school staff all across Alachua and Levy counties to help feed children in food-insecure homes.

Something I want to highlight is their incredible response the COVID-19 crisis.  The shutdown of schools in response to the coronavirus has led to an increase in the number of children lacking the food resources necessary for them.  In response to this need, Food4Kids has added more than 350 children to their program! They now are helping to feed 1,250 children each weekend.  Furthermore, food has been delivered to the homes of these families, as many of them do not have ready access to transportation.  What an awesome way to love people and practically serve those in need!

If you have a burden to aid this organization there are many ways you can get involved! They have plenty of volunteer opportunities, and if you would like to learn more about those go ahead and visit http://www.food4kidsbackpackprogram.com/!  You can also donate food, share reusable bags in new or like-new condition, or sponsor a child to receive Food4Kids.  Of course you can also donate to our very own orange bucket drive at this link: http://gatorchurch.com/event/orange-bucket-food4kids-outreach/.

Finally, prayer is the biggest way that we as a body of believers can assist this organization.  Please pray for the safety and health of Food4Kids’ core team and school staff who continue to work tirelessly to feed these families! Pray that donors and supports who reach out would discern the best way to make a difference for these families.  Lastly, please pray for the families in the program who, even before COVID-19, were struggling in poverty.

I am so thankful to be part of a church family who is on mission!  I am always ready to help connect you to missional opportunities, so please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions at missmeghanelise@gmail.com.

In Christ,

Meghan Williams
