With a history stretching back to the 1930’s as Grove Street Baptist Church, North Central Baptist Church is a fellowship of baptized believers in Jesus Christ who rely on the Bible as our guide and authority, and who have joined ourselves together for the purpose of honoring the Lord Jesus with our worship, for doing evangelism that builds his church, and for teaching his people to live the Christian life doing ministry which further builds his church.
In December 2003, we moved from our more “North Centrally” location in Northeast Gainesville to our new home on NW 23rd Avenue. Our goal was to build a facility that was a tool for the Kingdom during the entire week, not just Sunday and Wednesday. Call it what you will, a “gymnatorium” or a “sanctunasium”, when you’re sitting in church on Sunday morning, your chair may be on the foul line where our children’s Upward basketball league was playing the day before. That sort of flexibility characterizes many aspects of our church: Our senior adults, who have earned the right to have things their way, happily give up their space for all the youth that pour in on Wednesday nights. Instead, the seniors meet early (4:00) and then many stick around to help our international friends with conversational English. The bottom line is that we want to be more than attendees. We’re determined to squeeze every drop of Kingdom value out of the gifts that God has placed in our hands.
